Dispute over new terms has led Benin republic telecommunications regulator to withdraw Globacom’s operating license.
According to the document seen by Reuters, it said the regulator, ARCEP-BENIN took the decision after negotiations with Globacom to renew its license that broke earlier this month after the company refused new conditions imposed by the government.
ARCEP documents did not list the new conditions but a source closed to the regulator said they included an increase in the cost of the license.
However, Globacom also operates in Ghana and Nigeria as ARCEP’s website recent statistics reveals Globacom have over 1.6 million subscribers in 2015.
Meanwhile, Officials with the parent company, which is owned by Mike Adenuga – the Nigerian billionaire, were not immediately available for comments.
